Wrestler Max Carlin Honored for His Determination Patch Whitefish Bay, WI --

Whitefish Bay alum Nathan Potter may be gone, but his legend lives on in the heart of Whitefish Bay wrestlers.

Potter, who was murdered in Milwaukee in 2009ext, is memorialized with an annual award called "The Nathan Potter Heart Award," which is presented annually to the Whitefish Bay wrestler who best reflects Potters's commitment, persistence, effort and grit on the wrestling mat.

This year's recipient was Max Carlin, a Whitefish Bay senior who is making a name for himself in the 113-pound and 120-pound weight classes. Carlin, who competed in the state tournament last year, also posted 36 victories, breaking the team record for most wins in a season.

Carlin received the award before the start of last week's home meet against Homestead, which the Blue Dukes beat 64-12 on their home mats. The Blue Dukes also took fourth in the Highlander Invitational Friday.

The Nathan Potter Heart Award rewards wrestlers with a work ethic and commitment similar to Potter. Potter was 1-9 his freshman year, but by his senior year, he led the team in pins, was regional and conference champion, posted a 27-11 record and was voted most improved Blue Dukes wrestler for his second year in a row.

Last year, the Nathan Potter Heart Award went to Nick Levings. Tim Carlin received the award in 2010-2011, and Jake Beckert received the award in 2009-2010. Reported by Patch 5 days ago.
